What do I enter for the start date and end date for a batch of credits?

The start and end dates for a batch of credits tells buyers when the carbon impact was produced.

Are these dates the same as the issuance date?

No, the issuance date represents the date that the carbon credit is formally issued and ready for trading.

Registries

Verra

There are several ways to find the credit start and end dates, as well as the issuance date of specific VCUs. Here are two approaches:

  • The “Vintage Start” and “Vintage End” dates are enumerated with each VCU issuance. These dates can be found on the VCUs section of the open Verra registry. These are also the start and end dates of the “Vintage Period” of each VCU issuance
  • The serial number range of the VCUs includes the vintage start . For example, within a serial number range like: 0001-000001-000100-VCS-VCU-003-VER-US-0003-01012020-31122020-1, the start date is 1/1/2020 (Jan 1), and the end date is 12/31/2020 (Dec 31).

The “Issuance Date” is also listed with each VCU issuance on the registry.

CAR

  • The “Date Issued” is listed with each ERT issuance on the CAR registry
  • The CRT records on CAR do not themselves enumerate credit start and end dates on the registry. However, the date range for the reporting period that is included in your projects’ validation and verification step would give buyers a good understanding of when the carbon impact had occurred, and we strongly encouraged you to include that period with your credits

ACR

  • The `Date Issued` is listed with each ERT issuance on the ACR registry
  • The ERT records on ACR do not themselves enumerate credit start and end dates on the registry. However, the date range for the “Reporting Period” that is included in your projects’ validation and verification step would give buyers a good understanding of when the carbon impact had occurred, and we strongly encouraged you to include that period with your credits

Gold Standard

  • The “Monitoring Period” of each issuance is reported on the GS registry, with start and end dates of that range that can be used to populate the credit start and end date.

The “Issuance Date” is also listed with each VER issuance on the registry.
